In class, we reviewed an EOG practice from last week. Then, I introduced students to "UNRAAVEL" ... my suggested method for working through an EOG reading.
UNRAAVEL stands for:
Underline the Title
Now Predict what will happen
Run through and number the paragraphs
Are you reading the questions?
Are the important words circled?
Venture through the reading
Eliminate the wrong answer choices
Let the Questions be Answered!
Finally, students worked through an EOG reading on their own using these steps.

Then, students listened to Bohemian Rhapsody and chose a line from the song that they could connect to somehow, and completed their second T2S paragraph. In class, I introduced students to the TEPS paragraph organization. We took notes on TEPS and then students analyzed a sample paragraph to find each element of organization. Finally, students read articles about different issues in the media and wrote their own TEPS paragraphs arguing their own opinion.

In class, students completed a review of homophones and apostrophes. Then, we discussed different issues students have at our school and students debated both sides of some of the issues. Finally, I returned the Poetry Anthology projects from before break and students reviewed their grades.
**Vocab. 4 Quiz will be NEXT WEDNESDAY and will include questions about the vocabulary list, homophones, and apostrophes.
***Any missing work or assignment corrections are due NEXT WEDNESDAY so that I can update your grades before report cards go out.

In class, we discussed word choice in student writing. We discussed how to use pronouns properly and the difference between "yuck" (overused) and "yay" (more descriptive) words. Finally, students finished reading editorials from the newspaper and identifying which type of editorial they were.
