In class, we reviewed an EOG practice from last week. Then, I introduced students to "UNRAAVEL" ... my suggested method for working through an EOG reading.

UNRAAVEL stands for:
Underline the Title
Now Predict what will happen
Run through and number the paragraphs
Are you reading the questions?
Are the important words circled?
Venture through the reading
Eliminate the wrong answer choices
Let the Questions be Answered!

Finally, students worked through an EOG reading on their own using these steps.

Due: Apostrophes WS

In class, we discussed word choice in student writing. We discussed how to use pronouns properly and the difference between "yuck" (overused) and "yay" (more descriptive) words. Finally, students finished reading editorials from the newspaper and identifying which type of editorial they were.

In class, we discussed apostrophe use and students completed some practice questions using apostrophes. Then, we viewed commercials and students discussed the different types of persuasion used in each commercial. Then, students took brief notes on the different types of editorials (articles, columns, and letters) and started reading editorials from the N&O and answering questions.
